The City of Malibu supports opportunities to provide events for residents and visitors to pursue an active lifestyle. To facilitate this goal, the City seeks proposals from qualified, experienced, and knowledgeable race organizers to conduct a race event within City limits for a 5-year term. Following the City’s Road Race Policy #47, the City may grant a maximum of two (2) temporary use permits for marathons, triathlons, and cycling events per calendar year.
Malibu is a Community that depends on the Pacific Coast Highway for East to West access and wants to ensure there are clear guidelines for operating special events that limit impacts to residents, in addition to race organizers implementing public safety measures and acknowledging the use of public resources. City Council Policy #47 - Road Race was created and adopted to provide clear guidance on how races and events shall operate in the City. The Policy establishes a process for permitting the use of public roadways for non-motorized (walking, running, bicycling) races and events conducted by the private sector that affect residents or use of public resources.
