The City of Santa Cruz Water Department is seeking a contractor to complete the Newell Creek Instream Habitat Restoration – Large Woody Debris project is an on-site compensatory mitigation project that will install large wood structures in a 750 foot length segment of Newell Creek on City-owned property downstream of Newell Creek Dam. The goal of the project is to improve instream habitat complexity and cover for native stream species and to restore natural stream processes by trapping sediment and forming pools. The section of Newell Creek downstream of the dam is habitat for a variety of native freshwater species, including resident rainbow trout.

The wood structures will be a combination of full sized trees, small trees, and other smaller wood material all locally-sourced and placed in the channel to create a complex network of wood structures throughout the 750 foot stream segment.

Pre Bid Conference:

The Pre-Bid meeting is at a restricted access site. An RSVP is required for attendance to the Pre-bid meeting. Please contact Maryna Sedoryk, msedoryk@santacruzca.gov, Tuesday April 18th by 5:00pm.

A non-mandatory pre-bid conference will be held at 10237 Newell Creek Road, Ben Lomond, CA 95005, above, on April 20, 2023 at 3:00 pm local time. It is recommended that attendees wear face masks, social distance, and follow any other safety measures currently recommend by the County Public Health Officer.

Bid Delivery Instructions:

The Bid Due Date for this solicitation is Monday, May 1st 2023, at 1:00 pm local time, to guarantee review. Sealed bids must be received at the Water Department, 212 Locust Street, Suite C, Santa Cruz, California 95060, in a sealed envelope plainly endorsed with the Project Name and Number, listed in the solicitation document.

Bids received after the deadline will be deemed non-responsive. Bidders take full responsibility for City’s receipt of its Bid. The City will not be liable for any expenses incurred by Bidders in responding to this solicitation.

Date and Place of Opening Bids

The sealed bids will be publicly opened and read aloud on May 1, 2023 at 1:00pm.
