Currently the City of Indio is constructing a new Public Safety Campus at the northeast corner of Jackson Street and Dr. Carreon Boulevard that includes a new Police Department, Fire Station #1, and a Communication Dispatch Center. For project plans and building elevations, please refer to Attachments E and F to this RFP.

As part of Indio Public Safety Campus Project, the City desires to add a memorial sculpture to the site. Therefore, the City of Indio’s Public Arts Commission is seeking proposals from emerging and established artists for an outdoor sculpture to be dedicated to the heroes of September 11, 2001, to remember the day. The memorial sculpture shall give the residents of Indio, as well as many other visitors, a place at which to reflect on this significant day in our Country’s history. The purpose of the Memorial Sculpture is to ensure that the community will have an enduring source of remembrance of the events of September 11, 2001.

The proposed memorial sculpture must include a 12-foot tall piece of steel artifact with a spiral curve from the former New York World Trade Center, which should be the focal point of the sculpture (Attachment D). This steel artifact shall be used as is without any alterations. The entire memorial site (landscaping and lighting) shall be included in the proposal. This sculpture will be available for viewing year-round.

The space designated for the artwork is the exterior grass area on the northeast corner of Dr. Carron Blvd and Jackson Street, which is most visible to the public, where three (3) Palm Trees exists(addresses: 46835, 46867, and 46951 Bristol Street).
