The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has awarded a Firm Fixed Price and Cost Plus Fixed Fee Order N0001923F2556 under Basic Ordering Agreement N0001922G0006 to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), Poway, CA, for the manufacture and delivery of aircraft modification kits necessary to migrate the MQ-9A from a -15 configuration to a -20 configuration, also known as an Extended Range (ER) configuration. This delivery order also directs GA to perform a field installation of the ER kits into two (2) MQ-9 aircraft and modify necessary documentation to confirm proper installation and functionality of the aircraft. This Order will align USMC MQ-9A Block 5 air vehicles with the standard USAF configuration for the successful operational capability of the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Expeditionary (MUX) Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) MQ-9A Block 5 Reaper air vehicles and Ground Control Station s (GCS). This Order was awarded to GA-ASI in the amount of $4,103,986 inclusive of all options.
This acquisition was pursued on a sole-source basis under statutory authority of Title 10, U.S.C. Section 2304(c)(1), as implemented by Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1, "Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements." A determination by the Government not to compete this effort was solely within the discretion of the Government. This effort is covered under the Class Justification and Approval (CJ&A) number 21-0382 – redacted version attached to this announcement.
