Description
This is a SOURCES SOUGHT ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY. It is neither a solicitation announcement nor a request for proposals or quotes and does not obligate the Government to award a contract. Responses to this Sources Sought Announcement must be in writing. The purpose of this Sources Sought Announcement is for market research to make appropriate acquisition decisions and to gain knowledge of potential businesses interested and capable of providing the services described below.

The West Los Angeles VA Medical Center is seeking a contractor to provide a Brand Name or Equal to Haas VF-2YT Vertical Machining Center for the Engineering Department.

The Vertical Machining Center must have all of the below Salient Characteristics:

Spindle: 10,000-rpm Spindle, 40 taper, 30 hp (22.4 kW) vector drive, inline direct-drive.

Automatic Air Gun (AAG) to provide constant air blast to clear chips during dry machining.

55 Gallon Coolant Tank

Chip Auger Conveyor to automatically remove chips from the machine while compressing them and wringing out the coolant.

Automatic Air Gun supplies high-pressure / high-flow air through an adjustable cylinder and retractable barrel to clear chips safely and automatically during dry machining, or to blow chips and coolant out of deep pockets.

High-Speed Machining; allows faster feed rates and more complex toolpaths, without hesitation or starving the machine. HSM with contouring feeds up to 1200 ipm (30.5 m/min),

Wireless Intuitive Probing System: Guides operator through job set-up process with templates. Has the ability to define work offset coordinates, set tool length offsets, and perform in-process inspection within the program, for both part inspection and tool breakage detection.

Productivity Improvement Training: 3 day class (8 hours/day) for 1 to 5 students held on customer machine shop floor that presents an overview of proper techniques used while performing a milling set up. Training will consist of getting to know the machine while taking control of the application and process. The focus of the course will be on learning how to effectively set up the machining center. It provides students with hands-on Productivity Improvement and demonstrations.

Through-Spindle Coolant Ready: pre-configured to accept through-spindle coolant system.

Chip Tray Filter Kit; supplemental chip strainer kit to keep chips from entering the coolant system. With 200-micron filter and metal chip tray basket.

Work Table Light, 24V; magnetic mount LED light.

This notice shall not be construed as a commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation or ultimately award a contract, nor does it restrict the Government to a particular acquisition approach. The Government will in no way be bound to this information if any solicitation is issued. The VA is mandated by Public Law 109-461 to consider a total set-aside for Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses. However, if there are insufficient Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business responses, an alternate set-aside or full and open competition may be determined. No sub-contracting opportunity is anticipated. The North American Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 333517 (500 Employees).

After review of the responses to this Sources Sought Announcement, a solicitation may be published on the sam.gov or GSA eBuy websites. Responses to this Sources Sought Announcement will not be considered adequate responses to the solicitation. All interested offerors must respond to the solicitation in addition to responding to this Sources Sought Announcement. Prospective bidders must be authorized re-sellers in order to participate in the solicitation process.
