The Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) is a user-oriented research center whose mission is to be an open facility for the nanoscience research community and advance the science of nanomaterials that addresses the nations’ energy challenge. Research at CFN focuses on the development and application of advanced techniques to understand structure-processing-property relationships in functional nanomaterials. New and unique capabilities would enrich both internal research and our User program.
BSA is planning the procurement of an aberration corrected multimodal scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) for the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). The microscope will be procured by Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) on behalf of the Molecular Foundry as part of the Nanoscale Science Research Center Recapitalization (NSRC-Recap) project. The microscope, hereafter referred to as "Instrument", shall be designed to provide an optimum combination of capabilities for highÂresolution imaging with sub-angstrom resolution, electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and optional optical excitation. This Instrument is required to provide
The Molecular Foundry is a knowledge-based User Facility for nanoscale science at LBNL, supported by the Department of Energy (DOE). As an integral part of the LBNL and DOE research communities, the Foundry contributes strongly to the strategic initiatives of both organizations. The Foundry's mission is to provide communities of users worldwide with access to expert staff and leading-edge instrumentation to enable the understanding and control of matter at the nanoscale in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment. The Molecular Foundry produces a body of world-class, high-impact fundamental user research that is advancing the forefront of nanoscale science. This research portfolio not only maintains the center's leadership position in the world of nanoscience but also forms the foundation of scientific expertise that attracts the next generation of users to the Foundry.
